JUVEDERM | VOLUMA | RESTYLANE | RADIESSE
Dermal fillers are manufactured materials which mimic soft tissue and can be broken down and absorbed by the body. Over time as the tissues of the face undergo aging, the volume decreases, creating a hollow look, and can result in wrinkles. Fillers are used to add volume and fullness to the face, break shadows, and fill in deep wrinkles to produce a rejuvenated, youthful look. Patients present to the office with complaints of facial aging and desire restoration of their appearance. Fillers are commonly placed along the crease between the side of the nose and corner of the lips (nasolabial fold) as this is the most prominent line most patients complain about. It can also be placed to augment the lips, increase volume of the cheeks and mid face, and decrease wrinkles lines around the mouth. Recently, the “liquid facelift” has been becoming more popular in which fillers are used to restore the volume of the entire face, therefore tightening the overlying skin for a revitalized and youthful appearance. This is a great option for those who want a non-invasive rejuvenation of the face. Afterwards, patients comment on the improved appearance, and that friends say they look revitalized and more energetic with an improved self-image.

Understanding Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are injectable treatments designed to temporarily restore volume and smooth out wrinkles. They are primarily composed of hyaluronic acid (HA) or non-HA substances.
Hyaluronic Acid (HA) Fillers: HA is a naturally occurring substance in the skin that retains moisture and provides a plump appearance. HA fillers, such as Juvéderm and Restylane, attract and bind water, adding volume to the treated area.
Non-Hyaluronic Acid Fillers: These fillers, like Radiesse, contain substances like calcium hydroxylapatite, which stimulate collagen production for longer-lasting results. Non-HA fillers provide structure and lift, particularly useful for deeper wrinkles and facial contouring.
Dr. Tsai brings his expert training in plastic surgery and facial anatomy to select the right filler to achieve your facial rejuvenation goals and enhance your unique features. Following are the dermal fillers he most frequently uses and their treatment benefits.

DERMAL FILLERS: FAQs
How long do the results from cosmetic dermal fillers last?
The longevity of results with dermal fillers varies depending on the product used, the treatment area and the patient’s individual metabolism. Lighter formulations of Juvéderm and Restylane last in a range of six to nine months. Fillers with a thicker formula or gel consistency such as Juvéderm Voluma or Radiess last considerably longer, with benefits lasting between eighteen months and two years.
Dermal Fillers Procedure
There are many types of fillers, most of which are based off Hyaulranic Acid, a normal component of our soft tissues. Others are based on different ionic compounds. Although fillers basically produce similar results, they work in different ways. We offer Juvederm, Restyalyn, Perlane, Radiesse, and Voluma. During your consultation, Dr. Tsai will present you with all the possible options in detail and work with you to individualize treatment according to your specific goals and expectations to provide you with the best possible result. The only recommendation after treatment is to not place pressure, sleep on, or physically adjust the injected material. Occasionally there may be mild bruising at the injection site, but this is normal and will disappear in several days. Results are immediate but the swelling may not dissipate until a few days later. The treatment lasts for approximately 6 months, until the body absorbs the material. Treatment may be performed again once results dissipate and can be repeated as often as you desire.
