Breast augmentation is still one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures among women but getting implants is no longer the only way to increase the size of the breasts. Patients can use their own body fat to achieve fuller breasts and a more natural appearance.
Since there are no implants involved, there is no risk of capsular contracture, leaking and poor assimilation in the tissue. The body assimilates its own fat easily and the final result looks and feels very natural.
Women who are self-conscious about having small breasts or those who simply want a curvier, more feminine figure, can enjoy amazing results with the fat transfer breast augmentation procedure.
HOW FAT TRANSFER BREAST AUGMENTATION IS PERFORMED
This is a two-phase surgical procedure that begins with liposuction. Dr. Roger Tsai will determine where the fat cells should be harvested from and typically involves liposuction of the thighs, abdomen, back or flanks. Many patients like the extra benefit of losing a few inches in problem areas while increasing their breast size.
Patients do need to have a certain amount of body fat available for harvesting because many fat cells die during the re-injection process. Dr. Tsai typically reinjects more fat than needed for instant volume because a good percentage of these cells will die and get metabolized by the body shortly after treatment.
When performed correctly, most of the fat will remain in the breast tissue without dents or ripples. Every fat transfer breast augmentation procedure is personalized for the patient and is a combination of artistic precision and surgical technique.
WHAT TO EXPECT WITH FAT TRANSFER BREAST AUGMENTATION
The fat transfer breast augmentation is performed under general anesthesia. Patients return home the same day but must wear a support bra and avoid sleeping on their stomach while the tissues heal. Most patients are able to resume regular activities within a few days after surgery but cannot resume any upper body exercises or intensive workouts for up to 6 to 8 weeks post-procedure.
Some bruising and swelling is expected in the areas that had liposuction and also around the breast tissue. Any significant weight loss or weight gain after surgery does affect the final outcome so it’s important for patients to be at or close to their ideal weight before surgery.
