Breast lift with augmentation is a unique procedure, in that it combines two techniques to create a powerful result that can be a great option for patients seeking to restore their breasts to a more youthful appearance, as well as increase the size of the breasts. Great candidates include those who have undergone a change in the breasts due to pregnancy, weight loss, or just natural aging. Over time, breast volume can decrease and the overlying excess skin can “sag.” Patients who have previously undergone a breast augmentation in the past can still be good candidates for this procedure to rejuvenate the breasts.
This is a common procedure associated as part of the “Mommy Makeover” and most patients are extremely satisfied, as their breasts return to a more youthful appearance, providing increased self-confidence and rejuvenation.
PROCEDURE AND RECOVERY
Depending on the amount of lift that needs to be performed, a breast lift with augmentation usually takes between 2-3 hours to complete and is performed under general anesthesia (fully asleep) in the adjacent surgicenter. As with a traditional breast lift, the scar pattern can vary, according to the amount of lift that needs to be performed. A small lift could be achieved with a simple incision around the areola (peri-areolar) that is well hidden; a moderate lift may require a verticle extension; a larger lift may necessitate an additional horizontal extension at the breast fold. Scars are minimal and well hidden. The breast implants can be placed using any of the above incision types for the lift. Please see Breast Augmentation for additional details for this procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Tsai will present you with all the possible options in detail and work with you to individualize treatment according to your specific goals and expectations to provide you with the best possible result.
Patients return home the same day as the procedure so transportation will need to be arranged. Your first checkup will be the following day in clinic. Bandages are removed several days after the procedure and patients usually return to normal daily activities within 1-2 weeks. Pain is tolerated with prescribed oral pain medication. Exercise is resumed approximately 4-6 weeks after the procedure.
